
Top Tips
- Make changes in the Design Tab only, only use Preview Tab to preview.
- Remember to 'save without data' after you have finished developing the report.
- OK buttons are often in the bottom left corner; don't just close windows.
- When dragging and dropping objects, the top left hand corner is the active part.
- If a report doesn't present the expected information, try the "refresh" button.
- You may need to scroll pick lists to find the field you want. Only the fields actually on the report will appear at the top of the list.
- Right clicking (i.e. using the secondary mouse button) will often give you the feature you want.
- Change Grouping settings by right clicking in the grey area of the appropriate Group and choose "Change Group".
- Use formulas after optimising Grouping and Totalling/Summarising.
- Use a formula only after exploring whether a Running Total can achieve the same purpose.
- Make use of the Help available such as "Example Formulas".
- Use the "Undo" button to unravel problems; it's often quicker than other methods.
- In File/Options, set your preferred options for all future reports.
- Keep formulas simple and add comments (using //) to aid debugging later.
